A Change of Theme

After messing around with the Wingbuck Studios Blog for a bit and seeing how nice many of the WordPress themes are, I decided to update the one I had going on here. I think this one fits with TheBrownShow’s style and took almost zero customization. I dig it.

I’ve been doing a lot of my posting over there due to this little Artwork Challenge that Sam and I have started. Debating on whether or not to keep posting there, move it here, or post the same to both. Not sure if anyone reads either site, but that’s not really the point anyway.

I’m posting this via the official WordPress app for Android. I have to say, this is pretty badass, though I seriously doubt this will get me back into blogging.

I suppose most casual blog posts are getting boiled down into 160-character blurbs and pushed out instantly via Twitter and Facebook these days. Do people even use their blogs anymore?

WordPress and Opera Mobile

I’m completely unable to log into my blog’s admin section via Opera Mobile (my mobile phone’s browser). I am continuously and repeatedly bounced back to the login page. What’s weirder, is that the site seems to think I’ve logged in, as the “meta” links have all changed, but clicking on the admin link just prompts me for a login.

If anyone reads this, I had this issue in WordPress 2.6 and 2.7, with Opera Mobile 8.65 on a Motorola Q.

So I put all that time and effort into switching over to WordPress and updating my theme and whatnot, and now I have absolutely NO idea what I should do with this place. It seems like it has quite a bit to do with my theory about how most web-savvy people spend their time on the Internets.

In my experience, it seems like most folks tend to have a single main site that they “hang out” at; whether it’s their blog, an online forum, or MySpace or Facebook or something along those lines. When one finds an interesting link or needs to rant about politics, they tend to do it in that one spot.

My problem is that for, wow, at least 6 or 7 years now, I’ve run a forum for my knucklehead friends (no offense, guys), so I tend to spend most of my online time posting and reading there. That’s where I know what I write will at least be read, and will usually be discussed or at least joked about.

So until I figure out exactly what it is that I want to do with this place, expect either randomness with no focus, or nothing.

I’ve moved the WordPress stuff over to the main page here at thebrownshow.com, and archived all the old ODIN software.

Well that’s done. Now we just have to see if this actually means I’ll update more often.

New Blog, Part 2

Looks like the hardest part about switching over isn’t going to be the backend, but the frontend. I’m having a hard time deciding whether or not I just want to hack around in a downloaded WordPress Theme, or make my own to make the site look like it used to.

Did some quick-and-dirty theme modifications and at least got the colors relatively close to the way they are on my main site. Shouldn’t be too hard to tweak it the rest of the way. I was probably due for a redesign anyway.

New Blog

So after years and years of using Jerry’s homebrew blogging software, I’ve decided to make the switch to WordPress.

Sorry Jer.

I’m going through my archives on the old blog and moving over selected posts that I’d like to keep for posterity. Other than that, out with the old and in with the new. Maybe new blogging software will motivate me to blog more.

…and just maybe working on a new template for this blog will get me motivated to do more web development on the side.

…or maybe, like always, this will be the last time I post for months because I’ll get distracted by another shiny object.

In any case, it’s progress!
